What are the advantages of an Ipod Nano?

I am thinking of buying one for my Son for his birthday. What are the general advantages of an Ipod Nano compaired to other gaming gadgets like playstaytion or Xbox?

It is a nice compact gadget and great for the kids. I have a lot of members in the family buying them as gifts for their kids. The cost is quite good too for what you get with it.

I like the compactness of them and the simple mechanism.
